Classroom Curriculum Information

Week of April 14-18
Reading
Story of the Week: Anthony Reynoso: Born to Rope
Genre- Nonfiction: Personal Narrative
In this selection, Anthony Reynoso, a boy who ropes and rides the Mexican Rodeo tradition, tells about his life. We will be discussing similarities and differences in Anthony's traditions and ours.
Please continue to read nightly to keep the reading progress going! Each student has a take-home book in their home folder that should be read several times during the week. These books are stories that include the vocabulary words of the week.
Vocabulary Words:
dappled, exhibition, landscape business, ranch, thousands
Writing
We are still working on writing complete sentences, using capitals and ending marks, and staying on topic in a paragraph. Paragaphs now must include a main idea sentence, supporting sentences, and a closing sentence. A writing grade will be taken once a week. All paragraphs with editing mistakes will be returned for students to correct. This will hopefully encourage students to edit their paper more closely before turning it in. We will also begin writing stories for our Author's Tea that will be held in May.
Spelling Words
under, read, last, never, own, set, line, end, left, us
Note** These words are our last set of spelling words for the school year! For the rest of the year we will review all of our spelling words.
